Cockroach Control — Shell Cove & Shellharbour

Cockroaches are one of the most common pest call-outs we get around Shell Cove and Shellharbour — and one of the hardest to clear without a proper treatment plan. Sprays from the supermarket kill what you can see; they do not touch the population in the wall cavities, roof void or sub-floor. Within a fortnight you are back where you started.

Which cockroach do you have?

  • German cockroach — small, light brown, two dark stripes on the back of the head. Lives indoors, breeds fast, favours warm humid kitchens and bathrooms. The hardest to eradicate.
  • Australian cockroach — large, reddish-brown, pale stripe on the wing edge. Comes inside from gardens, sheds and roof voids. Common in older Illawarra homes.
  • American cockroach — the big shiny brown one. Usually lives in drains, sub-floors and grease traps. Restaurants and commercial kitchens see these the most.
  • Smokybrown cockroach — dark mahogany, common in roof voids and around outdoor lights. Strong flyer — especially on humid Illawarra summer nights.

Why DIY treatments fail

Cockroaches breed in cracks and voids you cannot reach with a can. A single German cockroach egg case carries up to 40 nymphs and hatches every 3–4 weeks. To break the cycle you have to treat the harbourage points — the gaps behind appliances, kickboards, switch plates and skirting — with a residual product that the cockroaches walk through and carry back to the nest.

Our cockroach treatment

  1. Inspection — we identify the species, find the harbourage points and confirm the entry routes.
  2. Gel baiting — targeted gel placements in kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and any other hot spots. Cockroaches eat the bait and take it back to the colony.
  3. Residual perimeter — internal and external spray to sub-floor vents, roof void, weep holes and around the slab.
  4. Follow-up advice — we walk you through how to keep them out for good: sealing entry points, fixing moisture issues, and where to focus your cleaning.

Frequently asked questions

How long until I see results?

You will usually see dead cockroaches within 24–72 hours and a sharp drop in activity inside a week. Full colony collapse takes 2–3 weeks because the bait has to cycle through the nest.

Do I need to leave the house during treatment?

Usually no. The products we use indoors are low-toxicity and dry quickly. Pregnant women, small kids and pets should stay out of treated rooms until surfaces are dry — typically 2–4 hours.

Will I see more roaches before I see less?

Sometimes yes. Cockroaches hiding in voids will come out into the open as they are affected by the bait. This is normal and a good sign the treatment is working.
